The first step to healing is speaking your truth.
The last step to healing is speaking your truth.
And every step in between.
This book is a serialized guide (chapters released periodically), drawn from my experience escaping the clutches of radical religion. This is not a "tell all" book, although I will certainly interject many personal life experiences that have never before been revealed. The goal in this project is to offer both stories and solutions that will ultimately lead to healing. Step-by-step, together we will explore the phases of withdrawal, stages of recovery and methods for living in freedom from your past. I made the journey, as have others - and so can you.

Some of the topics I will cover include:
  • the importance of professional support and how to find it
  • how to walk away...for good this time
  • the signs and dangers of living a double life
  • the spiritual abuse of "spiritualizing" abuse
  • stop playing the blame game with yourself
  • knowing and avoiding your triggers
  • undoing the God of your past
  • becoming your own person, not merely a follower of others - discover who YOU are
and many more...

PERSONAL NOTE:  Due to some serious health issues, it has become imperative that I take a break from writing this book and focus on taking care of myself. I have learned through the years that I cannot overly immerse my mind in the past to the detriment of my own physical, mental and/or emotional well-being; so finishing the book is currently on hold, which I'm sure you understand. For many people, writing about their past is therapeutic - not so for me. Writing about my past is re-traumatizing, triggering and quite painful. I experience the grief and loss all over again. I have realized that re-engaging with painful memories affects me negatively, even affecting my health. At this point, I can't say when or if the book will be completed. But what I hope is that you will benefit from the chapters that have been written thus far. I have shared a great deal of my heart and healing in the chapters that were completed.

Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued interest.

Author's Note:  I have been as accurate and truthful as possible in my writing. However, it is possible that some events have been placed in the wrong years or my memory a bit uncertain when it comes to characters' ages and/or timeline of events. I have shared my story as I lived it and as I remember it, written as honestly as possible. If the timeline is at all inaccurate, it is merely due to a flawed recall of exact dates.
